NEW YORK – Does Thanksgiving or Christmas on the beach or in a fancy hotel sound better than spending it in a family member’s room? A survey of 2,000 Americans examining how people travel during the holiday season reveals that three in five people would rather have a relaxing vacation than deal with the stress of the holiday (61%).

Forty-one percent of people typically travel on vacation, particularly Millennials and Gen Z (58% each). This year, Gen Z is the most likely to take a trip for the season (59%). While many only go for a week or less (81%), a fifth of respondents who travel go longer (19%).

According to respondents, the ideal length of vacation is one to two weeks (53%) and 68% would not be satisfied with a vacation of three days or less. Millennials are the most likely to need a longer trip, agreeing they want to get away from the stress of vacation (68%).

Conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Apple Vacations, the survey also reveals that leaving is not always easy. Nearly two in five (38%) call it a difficult experience, with the most notorious difficulties being crowds (42%), delayed or canceled flights (37%) or forgetting something at home (31 %).

Generally, people would rather pack a little light (35%) than pack too much (30%) – bring casual clothes for their holiday trips, such as jeans and t-shirts (75%). However, 28% want to be fashionable while away and 27% would choose a dressy option just in case.

Thirty percent of Gen Xers pack something sporty like activewear or stretchy clothes, while Millennials are ready to shine in their stylish outfits (24%).

Respondents shared other essentials for vacation trips besides clothing and toiletries, such as “extra cash for emergencies”, “a good book” and “portable batteries”.

“When you go on vacation for the holidays, it doesn’t matter what you pack as long as you come back relaxed and with many great memories,” said Dana Studebaker, vice president of consumer brand marketing at Apple Leisure Group, in a statement. . . “For many travelers, what matters most is having quality experiences and spending time with loved ones.”

Those traveling for the holidays this year are going to visit loved ones (48%) and spend time with their children (33%) or partner (33%). Interestingly, Gen Z will travel to keep up with tradition (26%), while Millennials just need time off from work (40%).

When traveling on vacation, people prefer to visit a place they like (47%), but 27% want to go somewhere they have never been before.

This holiday season, people are most interested in visiting somewhere family-friendly (41%) or tropical (33%), while others want to relax at an all-inclusive resort (29%) or explore a small city ​​(26%). ).
