Is Disneyland opening a new restaurant inspired by a Disney Princess?

There’s some big news coming out of the D23 convention happening near Disneyland right now. Not only does the event offer a first look at new Disney attractions, like the renovated Toontown opening next year, but it hinted that Disneyland might have a new restaurant.

If the reports are true, this could be the theme park’s first new restaurant in years. Called “Tiana’s Palace,” it’s heading to the plaza in New Orleans, based on “The Princess and the Frog” to match Splash Mountain’s park revamp.

In 2020, Disneyland announced that it would be revising the log ride, which is based on the popular Disney movie “Song of the South.” Bob Iger, then-CEO of Disney, said the 1947 film was “not appropriate in today’s world”; the film was never available for sale in the United States and is not available to stream on Disney Plus.

The ride, the company said, would become “Princess and the Frog” themed, not only to fit in with the New Orleans plaza area of the park, but to have its first ride featuring a black Disney princess. .

Since the announcement, progress has been slow on the change, but we now know Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is set to open in late 2024, according to the Disney Parks Blog. When it opens, the ride will feature Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen, along with their creature friends in the bayou.

A model of the ride is on display in the Disney Parks and Experiences Wonderful World of Dreams pavilion at D23, Disney’s annual convention that takes place at the Anaheim Convention Center September 9-11. Also included in the exhibit: an article about a restaurant called Tiana’s Palace.

Splash Mountain is about to be completely redone to remove its connection to “Song of the South”. The new theme will be “The Princess and the Frog”.

Disney Parks

“Tiana’s Palace opens to royal praise,” the title reads. “With its appetizing menu, exceptional entertainment and warm welcome, Tiana’s Palace has quickly become a New Orleans meeting place. Princess Tiana used her newfound success to support surrounding neighborhoods, which led her to take on a role as a community leader.

Disney hasn’t officially announced the restaurant, nor offered more information than what’s shown; but D23 media claims to have learned information from Disney imaginaries about the restaurant. If it does open, Tiana’s Palace will be the first new restaurant to open since Avengers Campus brought Pym Test Kitchen to Disney California Adventure in June 2021. That is, unless Disneyland has something else up its sleeve for the renovation of Toontown, which is scheduled to open. in 2023.

(The revamped Magic Key Terrace opened in August 2021 but had previously opened in other iterations.)

If it does, Tiana’s Palace could replace an existing restaurant in the plaza in New Orleans, according to the Disney Food Blog. It seems more likely that the new restaurant would replace the less popular French Market Cafe than fan-favorite Cafe Orleans, but anything is possible.

“Disney creators we interviewed said it would be a reimagined restaurant, and it’s not yet known if it will also come to Disney World,” Madison Owens wrote for Disney Food Blog. “According to Disney, Food and Beverage Imagineers spent a lot of time researching New Orleans.”

There’s no information on what the new restaurant’s menu might include, but it’s likely Tiana’s Palace will share some commonalities with Tiana’s Place, the “Princess and the Frog” themed restaurant on the Disney Wonder ship. . There, the Disney Cruise Line website describes, you can “snack on Creole-infused New Orleans Seafood Peppermint — a mouth-watering bouillabaisse brimming with calamari, shrimp, scallops and cilantro — or polish a Cajun spiced sea bass on a shrimp jambalaya alongside a crunchy fennel salad and remoulade sauce. It’s a safe bet the restaurant will be offering “Tiana’s Buttermilk Donuts,” which is also on the menu at Wonder’s Tiana’s Place and featured prominently in the Disney film.

When Disneyland closed the former Le Bat en Rouge space in New Orleans Square last year, it seemed likely that a Tiana-themed quick-service restaurant would replace it. Signs in the windows read, “Gumbo is the spice of life.” Now we know the space will become Eudora’s posh boutique featuring Tiana’s foodie secrets, according to Disneyland News Today.

The store, named after Tiana’s mother in ‘The Princess and the Frog’, will offer clothing and kitchen utensils. The opening is scheduled for September 20.
