Here are some of the best restaurants in Topeka to find cheeseburgers.

Melted cheese oozes from a double cheeseburger from the Harold Friday afternoon prize pack, as seen in an order with fries.

Cheese seeps deliciously “all the way through the burger” in the cheeseburgers prepared by the Prize Package at 1420 SE 6th Ave., says Carrie Green.

The cheeseburger at The Pad, 1730 NW Topeka Blvd., uses shredded cheese, which “makes it so good,” she adds.

The Burger Stand, 2833 SW 29th, makes Deborah Agnew’s favorite cheeseburger in Topeka.

“For me, it’s the quality of the beef, the moisture, and the marriage between the bread and the patty,” she said. “It also depends on my mood, because sometimes I crave a greasy, mashed burger more.”

Agnew and Green responded after The Capital-Journal asked the Topeka Experience Facebook page on Friday for comment on who makes the best cheeseburger in Topeka.

“melting perfection”

Garrett Taylor, cook at Burger Stand, 2833 SW 29th St., tosses burger patties onto the grill for customer custom burger orders on May 5, 2021.

On Thursday, The Capital-Journal announced that its readers had chosen the Burger Stand as having this community’s “Best Burger” in its Best of the Best 2022 awards.

The other two finalists were the Prize Package and The Pad.

“The Burger Stand tops everything based on product quality, creativity and consistency,” Karen K. Streeter said Friday on the Topeka Experience page.

The menu at Burger Stand, 2833 SW 29th St., includes a variety of burger options, sides, hot dogs and drinks.

A Burger Stand burger is “cooked the way you like it,” Susan Christey says on this page. “Rare, medium rare, well done, etc.”

Jensen Otte said he went to the Burger Stand when he wanted a “fancy burger”, but wanted a package deal for a “classic, no-frills, arm-flowing burger”.

The Prize Package’s double cheeseburger “just melts in your mouth,” said Angie Mauk.

“Take two double cheeseburgers and eat them out of the trunk of your car, with a napkin or lots of napkins,” Bud Tyroler said. “How they get this cheese to melting perfection is a trick I’d love to know.”

Quality, texture, taste — and love

The Pad's owner, Troy Mentzer, serves up a deluxe burger on Friday afternoons with all the trimmings.

Although the Best of Topeka list didn’t include the Chuckburger Drive-Thru at 2318 SE 6th Ave., Aimee Copp-Hasty loved the taste of her double cheeseburger on Friday.

“Old fashioned, grilled on a flat top, seasoned, all the toppings and perfectly melted cheese,” she said. “Delicious!”

Cyndi Desch Main spoke positively about the “shock burger” made by Glazed Goose, 5630 SW 29th.

“Swiss and American cheese, fresh vegetables, tomatoes, pickles, onions and lettuce,” she said. “It’s a smaller burger, perfect with a side or on its own.”
