You know that feeling when you want to leave your normal life behind for a few days (or like…a month) of relaxation and rejuvenation? Maybe somewhere where you’re surrounded by mountains, trees, and clear blue skies…not to mention a swimming pool, or three? Enter: Miraval Berkshires Resort & Spa.

But Miraval Berkshires is no ordinary spa, it’s a cool spa. On the one hand, it offers regular massages, but also *crystal* massages. Its elective adventure-style itinerary allows you to attend classes on topics such as Ayurveda and aura photography, have a one-on-one session with a breathwork teacher or tarot reader, and participate to lessons on everything from fire building (yes, Girl Scout style) to why “grounding” (i.e. walking barefoot) is good for you. And with the Hampton Jitney now offering rides direct from Midtown Manhattan to Miraval, it’s easier than ever for weary New Yorkers to head out for a weekend (or week) in nature.

While Miraval Berkshires offers many sporting activities like tennis, hiking, kayaking and rock climbing, as Cosmo’s astrology editor I went straight to other activities like a crystal meditation and a sound bath. Check out my crystal-filled itinerary and definitely take some notes before your next well-deserved wellness getaway.

(FYI, the writer received free accommodations, meals, trips, and experiences during this getaway.)

Stay

  • Miraval Berkshires: Located in Lenox, Massachusetts, Miraval Berkshires is a bit like a sprawling luxury summer camp for adults. The main building is laid out like a gently winding maze, with hallways leading to the guest bedrooms; amenities like a spa, gym, dining room, and indoor and outdoor pools; and cozy corners to relax. It’s full of gorgeous little spots, like a gorgeous cork-covered room used for sound baths or a stunning display of giant crystals in the spa lobby.

    • Overlooking the rest of the resort is the Wyndhurst Mansion, a beautiful Golden Age-era brick building that was once owned by author Harriet Beecher Stowe’s family. It includes guest rooms as well as meeting spaces, and it’s no surprise to learn that it regularly hosts weddings. The extensive grounds include a golf course, stables and pastures, tennis courts, a garden and even a chicken coop. You can also sign up for hikes in the area.

      To play

      • Crystal massage: It’s like a hot stone massage, but with ~crystals~. The massage featured crystals chosen for both their origin and their healing properties, such as locally mined stones like pink rhodonite for self-love.
      • Crystal meditation: Yes, I got even more interested in crystals than I already was, okay??? This workshop featured an instructor-led lesson on choosing the single crystal that spoke to you, its cleansing, and working with crystals in general, followed by a guided meditation on setting intention with your intuitively chosen new BFF crystal.

        • Sound bath: ICYDK, a sound bath consists of relaxing or meditating while “bathing” in sound waves like those of a gong or a singing bowl. Or in the case of Miraval Berkshires, an entire room filled with hundreds of antique singing bowls. It’s strangely as relaxing as a massage but without anyone touching you.
        • Grounding: Aka “grounding”, grounding involves walking barefoot and soaking in the ~vibes~ of the earth and focusing on deep breathing to bring your body to a *cooler* state. And let me tell you, the grass at Miraval is more comfortable than carpet on your bare toes.

          To eat

          • Harvest Moon Restaurant: The main restaurant at Miraval Berkshires offers a rotating menu that incorporates many locally grown and produced foods. Breakfasts and lunches are a casual, “stop by every time” affair (and you choose to have your cold brew and toast indoors or outdoors), while dinners require reservations and involve several dishes, such as roast duck served with charred local vegetables. The foods are chosen with nutrition in mind, of course, but they’re also super tasty, like almond pancakes with berries for breakfast (check out this masterpiece below) or a banh mi vegan cauliflower for lunch.
