Punk Foodie’s Guide to Underground Restaurants September 9-11 – Reporter Newspapers & Atlanta Intown

Chef Carmee, who will be serving these sisig pork tacos at Lean Draft House in the West End on Saturday, is one of many Filipino chefs making an appearance in town this weekend.

On the Punk Foodie Underground Restaurant Calendar this weekend, you’ll find a total of 101 (and counting) underground dining events with 59 ITPs and 42 OTPs. You can also break down the pop-ups by region: Decatur area, Westend area, West Midtown area, and various ITPs. For OTP, see East and Northeast, Northeast, West and Northwest, and South Path.

This weekend we see all kinds of gatherings, celebrations and food festivals all over the city.

GATHERINGS

Filipino chefs are leading the way for rallies. At the @westside_motor_lounge, @kamayan_atl hangs out with NYC’s Filipino street food kings @sosarapnyc. The @therealdealbakery will join on Saturday and @bakers_hatt will be there on Sunday. Also on Saturday, @carmenderia is taking over the @leandrafthouse in the West End while @adobo.atl is hosting 2 seats for a Kamayan dinner in Decatur. @adobo.atl will also be at the O4W block party on Sunday (more details below).

You will also find a few Food Truck Friday’s, one in Duluth and one in Virginia Highlands.

In Decatur on Saturday, the last sunshine market of the year will feature top chefs using local produce including @jackalopeatl with an Asian + Southern fusion, @calaveritasatl with vegan tacos, @itsmightyhans with Taiwanese and @crinklesbynina with desserts. And if you’re thinking shoyu ramen broth shrimp and grits on Saturday morning (and we know you are), we’re happy to tell you that @tko_thekorean1 has you covered at @ptreefarmersmk in Buckhead.

On Sunday, @crinklesbynina is back on Sunday with Adobo and @gourmetstreetfoods (high comfort) at the O4W neighborhood party hosted by @soupbelly_atl (dumplings).

Finally on Sunday, @leaven_kitchen hosts a long list of chefs at their September Market and Community Drive.

CELEBRATIONS

Lots to celebrate this weekend starting with Wild Heaven’s 12th anniversary with unsurprisingly a fair bit of beer releases and 3 days of @mascogotacos (at Avondale Estates). Celebrate Lunar New Year at @juniper_cafe on the Westside with free mooncakes from @_momos_kitchen_ with every dinner (reservations recommended). And celebrate the Italian Feast of San Gennaro at @granaatl in Piedmont Heights.

GASTRONOMIC FESTIVITIES

A few festivals to note include the @atlantagriledcheese festival at @prattpullmandistrict in Kirkwood on Friday and the International Night Market in Lawrenceville on Friday and Saturday with plenty of chefs and food from around the world.

Speaking of festivals, have you heard of Soul of the South, a celebration of Atlanta’s pop-up scene with tasting menus from a group curated by Punk Foodie of 14 of the most interesting pop chefs and more inspiring? It’s September 29 and it’s going to be a lot of fun.
